Rebranding
Secure Retail is excited to announce that we have rebranded as Smart Payment Technologies. Our new name reflects our broader focus on delivering advanced, secure payment solutions to our clients. While our name has changed, our commitment to excellence and innovation remains stronger than ever.

2025
Secure Retail Expands Globally
Secure Retail sets up a distribution hub in America and development team in the Philippines to help support the expansion and development of their G8 payment platform.

2024
Secure Retail acquires STS
In January 2024, Secure Retail acquired Smart Technology Solutions (STS). This acquisition brought together two companies with a long-standing partnership and expertise in payment solutions.

2021
Secure Retail opens Dutch distribution facility
In March 2021, Secure Retail expands its operations by opening a new distribution facility in the Netherlands. This strategic move enhances their ability to provide support services across the whole of Europe and beyond.

Secure Retail ships its 100,000th order
With more than 750,000 payment terminals deployed globally Secure Retail reaches a major milestone in order processing, having shipped its 100,000th order.

2019
NVM Private Equity invests in Secure Retail
In 2019, NVM Private Equity LLP invested in Secure Retail, supporting the management team in their ambitious strategy to expand as a global technology partner. This investment reinforced Secure Retail’s commitment to specialising in payment acceptance, driving innovation and growth in international markets.

2018
Secure Retail set up SPT, our payment gateway arm of the business
Providing a full payments solution, Secure Retail sets up Secure Payment Transactions; specialising in delivering comprehensive solutions to meet diverse payment needs, combining payment devices, gateway services, and dedicated support into a seamless offering.
Initially centred around Verifone’s payment gateway, the solution offering has significantly expanded over time to incorporate multiple payment platforms.

2014
Managed Services Team created and first customer support contract signed
In 2014 Secure Retail established its Managed Services Team and signed its first customer support contract with Micros, a key player in the hospitality sector. The managed services team has continued to develop support services for retail, hospitality, transportation and unattended sectors and to date supports over 75,000 contracted devices in the field.

2012
Secure Retail gets a certified VISA approved secure room for online PIN
Led by Gary Fletcher, Head of Compliance and Quality, Secure Retail built a VISA-approved secure room for online PIN processing and achieved PCI P2PE certification in 2014. This strengthened relationships with PSPs and integrated the company into their Payment Infrastructure Management Systems (PIMS).

2004/2005
Chip & PIN launches in the UK
Chip & PIN technology was introduced in the UK, revolutionising payment security. Secure Retail played a crucial role by supporting the Northampton town trials. Key to this success was building strong partnerships with the established UK payment service providers to supply terminals that were pre-configured to work straight out of the box ensuring a seamless rollout.

2003
Secure Retail founded
Secure Retail was established by Carl Barton in 2003. Initially focused on supplying smart card connectors to payment terminal manufacturers and card readers to ATM providers the business soon recognised a need to support the end customers and partner networks by providing an established supply chain that could cut manufacturer lead time and provide the support required to make the Chip & PIN migration a success in the UK.
